Plymouth Health Board Approves Three Septic Variances

Board of Health · Meeting of September 16, 2026

Plymouth's Board of Health approved three septic variances and heard an update on Alzheimer's family support services. Chair Teri Reid presided over unanimous votes approving local upgrade variances for properties at 15 Meadow Glen Row Lane, 35 Samoset Avenue and 25 Sunset Avenue, each too small to meet standard Title 5 setbacks. Engineer James Short said of an aging septic technology, "plastic chambers are failing like crazy," in recommending the Samoset Avenue replacement.

Molly Purdue of the Alzheimer's Family Support Center told the board lifestyle factors account for "about 35 percent of your dementia risk," citing the newly released national Pointer Study. The board also seated three new Citizens Advisory Council members, deferred a Kate Morini-led electric billing discussion, and learned Holtec has 30 days to appeal a state denial of its bid to discharge treated wastewater from the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station into Cape Cod Bay.
