Board orders Perry's Market to fix noise or lose permits
Board of Health · Meeting of August 5, 2026
Plymouth Board of Health orders Perry's Market to get a sound study or risk its permits. Assistant Public Health Director Margaret Coe told the board that refrigeration noise behind the Sandwich Street market measured a 16-decibel gap over ambient sound in July, still above the state's 10-decibel violation threshold, despite an unapproved fence the owner installed instead of submitting a mitigation plan as ordered in February. The board voted 4-0, with Kate Morini abstaining, to give owner Rick Giuliotti 14 days to consult an environmental sound engineer or face permit suspension at renewal.
"We're throwing a lot of stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks," Coe said of the owner's prior fix. Separately, the board approved three septic variances near Long Pond and waived a $100 late fee for David Bannerman's bodywork permit. Jennie Babcock of the Plymouth County Suicide Prevention Coalition told the board the state's suicide-prevention budget has grown from $7.1 million to $14.4 million over 14 years, while Plymouth County recorded 49 suicide deaths in 2025.
