Plymouth Select Board Names New Cemetery, Fills Seven Board Seats at Packed March Meeting

PLYMOUTH -- March 17, 2026, Plymouth Select Board fills seven committee seats, names new cemetery, and advances town meeting date change. The board voted unanimously to name the new Route 80 burial ground Freedom Memorial Cemetery, accepting a Cemetery Commission recommendation honoring Revolutionary War veterans buried nearby, including enslaved and formerly enslaved men; the cemetery is scheduled to open for burials in 2027. The board appointed Barnaby W. Bosanquet and George Washington Herz II to the Affordable Housing Trust, Darlene Ford and Grace Dixon to the Natural Resources and Coastal Beaches Committee, and Michael Lombard to the Plymouth Growth and Development Corporation, all 5-0. On a 5-0 vote, members approved phases one and two of an e-bike education plan championed by Selectman Deb Iaquinto, including Seaside Trail signage and a new town web page. The board voted 4-1, Selectman Kevin Canty dissenting, to send two $50,000 free-cash articles for July 4th and Thanksgiving celebrations to spring town meeting, and voted unanimously to submit four charter and bylaw amendments that would move the annual town meeting from April to May and the election from May to June; a non-binding nuclear energy resolution submitted by Town Meeting Member Al DiNardo failed 0-5.
