PLYMOUTH — Recycling Committee launches composting campaign and swap shop. Chair Ken Stone will develop PowerPoint outreach materials for a campaign starting in July, coordinating with Sustainable Plymouth and piloting Black Earth as the transfer-station composting vendor. The swap shop opens May 9 with 43 volunteers and full coverage through October; the first Fix-It Clinic drew 91 attendees and will repeat in September.
James Downey, DPW Staff Liaison, must draft a preliminary Recycling Development Program submission by the June 1 state deadline, using transfer-station tonnage data to identify priorities. The shrink-wrap program has grown from 10 tons in 2019 to 60-plus tons, with tipping fees rising to $73-$74 per ton at the Brockton Materials Recovery Facility, constrained by contamination risk, storage limits, and staffing capacity.
