Select Board defers FY2027 budget vote pending alternative scenario
Select Board · Meeting of January 9, 2026
Plymouth Select Board postpones FY2027 budget vote seeking one percent levy reduction. The town's $343.2 million budget proposal, up 4.9 percent, addresses a $5.1 million health insurance cost surge driven by plan consolidation and GLP-1 drug expenses; Finance Director Lynne Barrett identified a prior $1.1 million calculation error now corrected. Chair David Golden motioned, Vice Chair Richard Quintal Jr. seconded, and all five board members voted unanimously to request an alternative scenario reducing the tax levy increase by one percent, to be presented alongside the original recommendation.
The average household property tax bill would rise to approximately $325 under the town manager proposal if values remain stable. Board members expressed concern over shrinking excess levy capacity and upcoming union contract negotiations.
