Precinct 17 caucus examines state aid and Plymouth's budget outlook

PLYMOUTH — Precinct 17 residents convened to hear State Representative Michelle Badger on state budget and transportation. Badger reported that 95 percent of the $3.3 billion federal cut to the state budget has been restored and that Massachusetts posted the nation's highest GDP growth in the first three-quarters of 2025. She outlined pending legislation on school-bus costs (Bill 4011) and noted road funding doubled over 2024 levels under Chapter 90, while flagging transportation as the state's largest unfunded mandate.
Plymouth, which funds three charter schools' transportation despite their regional enrollment, faces a fiscal challenge partly rooted in historically low taxes when the nuclear power plant operated; proposed solutions include an override, a 1 percent department cut rejected by the Select Board, and reduction of unfunded mandates.
